10 Questions with Rob Holroyd: Our Contracts Manager

Industry magazine, Tomorrow’s Tile & Stone, asked our trade contracts manager 10 questions about himself. You can read the interview in full here...
What was your first job?
As a young teenager, my first job was a Sunday paper round, and then as soon as I turned 16, I started working in a bar collecting glasses.
How did you get into the tile/stone industry?
When I was 18, my friend got me a job in the warehouse. From there, I moved into the purchasing department, where I got a good overview of the products in the market, which set me up with a lot of the knowledge I have today. After that role, I moved into contract sales and now I’m the contracts manager, with a team of dedicated sales people, all passionate about the products we have.
Who, in any other industry, do you most admire?
Ricky Gervais. Not only is he an amazing comedian, but also a passionate champion for animal rights. We share many of the same opinions about animal cruelty.
If money was no object, what car would you buy?
A Lamborghini.
If you could invent one product to make your job easier, what would it be?
A self-driving car. If I could work on my laptop whilst travelling from meeting-to-meeting it would save me a lot of time!
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
What most young guys wanted to be – a footballer!
What do you do to unwind?
I play football, walk the dog and go to the gym.
If you could host a dinner party with any three guests, dead or alive who would they be and why?
Ricky Gervais, Jim Carey and Elon Musk. Ricky to talk about his work on animal rights, Jim for the laughs and Elon, because he seems like an interesting character.
If you could visit any place in the world, where would you go and why?
Area 51, just to have a look and see if the rumours are true!
Which new developments/technology in the industry are you most excited about?
The new features available on Smart WC are amazing and due to popularity, they’re becoming more cost-effective – I think we’ll see them gaining traction in the coming years! Here's a blog which outlines the pros and cons of the smart toilet.
