How Do I Blend Traditional and Modern Bathroom Products?

We all love to browse through Pinterest and magazines at dreamy bathroom ideas, but we don't all live in an LA penthouse which would realistically suit such a design.

Sure, if you live in a contemporary home you can swing a fashionable bathroom, but what do you do if you live in a house which doesn't suit super modern?

If you’re wanting to update your bathroom with a nod to the trends, but still remain sympathetic to your home’s overall look and feel, look no further!

I have some ideas to give you food for thought.

1. Coloured  Furniture

If you want a traditional vibe in your bathroom, one way to achieve that is by choosing traditional bathroom furniture, which nods to the past. If you're feeling adventurous and don't want ‘bog standard’ white, a colour such as grey is the perfect way to bring the past into the present. For example, our Arundel range of traditional bathroom furniture has WCs, bath panels, floorstanding tall bathroom storage cabinets and floorstanding vanity units – all in midnight grey.

The traditional matte wood finish, alongside the ceramic basic creates a perfect blend of traditional and modern for a beautiful bathroom finish.

My advice is to keep the walls simple with white metro tiles and grey grout to continue the colour of the furniture and add a patterned bathroom floor tiles. This look has an element of trends but is also timeless, so you can enjoy your space without being a slave to fashion.

Trendy brass accessories work great with grey and white and transforms a space.

2. Demure Decadence

So, let’s say that you live in a 1930's semi-detached but glamour is your thing. Well, what about choosing a traditional bathroom suite that is inspired by the deco era?

For example, our Claydon range of traditional bathroom sanitary ware takes inspiration from the Edwardian period, with simple angled lines which ooze sophistication and style without being overbearing.

For example, we have a traditional semi-recessed basin, a close-coupled traditional toilet, a low-level traditional toilet and a high-level traditional toilet.

Keep the tiles simple and add a wood-effect herringbone tiled floor to maximize the effect. Back-lit bathroom mirrors and tasteful silver accessories go a long way to complete a look that you will keep on loving for a long time to come.

3. Traditional-Meets-Contemporary Feature Wall

What's more traditional than wood? You’ll be amazed by the textures and finishes of wood-effect tiles available these days. Wood-effect tiles are perfect in the bathroom to achieve a traditional homely feel whilst being practical, but what about shaking things up a bit by having wood-effect tiled feature wall?

It’s the perfect backdrop to frame an area such as your lovely new vanity unit or bath – and may lead to an Insta post you can be proud of.

Easy Bathrooms’ Duke, rectified porcelain wood-effect tiles would create a subtle punch, while the Forest Wood tiles would offer something more rustic.

4. Space-Saving Splendour

If you love the look of a traditional vanity unit but don't have masses of space, then how about a unit such as Richmond?

The range of traditional bathroom furniture beautifully blends traditional with the convenience of modern and sits into a tight space with ease.

Included within the range is a sample of large, curved and straight floor standing vanity units. The 1200mm vanity units have an elegant and shapely design featuring traditional panel detailing. The unit is beautifully-finished with a luxurious marble top that brings a touch of sophistication to the bathroom. Sunken within the beautiful marble worktop is a neat oval ceramic basin.

A rich, dark-coloured wall, teamed with simple tiles always looks great, but you could also add encaustic patterned tiles for a traditional/contemporary wow-factor!

5. Blushing Beauty

If a statement is your thing, then a blush pink vanity unit, teamed with rich-coloured metro navy tiles is guaranteed to impress every time.

Blush pink and navy blue are at the forefront of home interior trends right now and it's a great way to give your bathroom a splash of colour whilst still being both traditional and contemporary.

Bathroom accessories are key to giving this look the finishing touches. Choose accessories that are simple yet stylish and stick to a simple colour palette, with shows off the tiles and furniture to perfection.
