Should You Do Up Your Bathroom Before Selling?

If you’ve set your heart on a new dream home, then the last thing you might want to do is start putting money into your current property.
But giving it a spruce might be one of the best things you do before moving. Because small improvements could add thousands to the selling price of your house — giving you more equity for your next home.
However, we understand that all the other stresses that come with moving may leave you with little time — or desire — to start doing up the whole property.
So, if we had to choose just one room to spruce, we think the bathroom would be top of our list. And we’re not alone, because Nationwide Building Society agrees that updating this space can add 5% to your home’s value.
After all, it’s one of the busiest rooms in a house, so prospective buyers want to see that it’s in good condition. Cracked tiles, leaking pipes and outdated fittings are definitely not a good look.
We’ve therefore put together the top bathroom elements you should think about updating before moving house:
Beautifully modern wall and/or floor tiles can have a huge impact on the desirability of a bathroom. This blog outlines the hottest tile trends for 2018, any of which would be sure to impress a viewer. Choose something striking but simple to appeal to a wide range of buyers.
And get a professional in to do the tile work, because clean lines of grout make a difference, too (messy, misaligned tiles can be a big turn-off!).
2. An Electric or Thermostatic Shower
Is there anyone who likes a cold shower? We don’t think so! So if you have a family home, then it could be worth thinking about installing an electric or thermostatic unit before moving.
It ensures there’s always hot water available, meaning no waiting around for it to heat up — another ‘tick’ in the eyes of a potential buyer.
Your suite should be in a good, clean condition, with no visible cracks on the bath/shower, toilet or sink. Buyers will look for quality features such as a glass screen instead of a shower curtain, mixer taps in favour of separate hot/cold ones and a chrome heated towel rail.
And don’t forget that you don’t have to spend a fortune on these bathroom improvements — we have plenty of tiles, shower units and fittings available in our sale.
We also have lots of new products for when you move into your next property — and our bathroom designers can even help you to create the perfect space for relaxation! Be sure to book in for your free consultation across our Yorkshire, Midlands or Chester stores.
