Bathroom Refresh Tips
We expect a lot from our bathrooms, generally the smallest room in the home, yet one of the most used, needing to be practical yet relaxing. It can be hard to maintain a zen space with all the necessities of a household this one room has to hold.
We’ve compiled a few tips and tricks that are budget friendly, as well as being fairly quick and easy to complete and manageable by most, to refresh your bathroom without spending thousands.
Refresh the Walls
We’re not talking about a major paint job, although a tin of paint can do wonders for refreshing the bathroom, we’re thinking more about adding interest and character with pieces of art, feature mirrors and mirrored cabinets. There's no reason to treat the bathroom walls any different to the others in your home. Introducing a large feature mirror to the wall is sure to brighten your room whilst helping to increase the look of space. If you do fancy dabbling with paint, why not give colour blocking a go? Selecting segments of the walls to paint in a block colour, creating a bold and pretty easy feature.
If your bathroom has wall or floor tiles that are looking a little tired, a good scrub can make a huge difference. We recommend using a small amount of dish soap mixed with warm water to ensure no surface damage to whatever type of tiles you may have and for tougher stains try a soft bristled brush, make sure to rinse off the tiles with clean water to remove all soap residue. Always double check your tile type before cleaning with anything else that may not be as mild.
If your grout is looking like its seen better days, you could try a dedicated grout cleaner or a homemade paste made up of baking soda and water, apply to the grout and scrub with a toothbrush. If your grout is beyond saving, you can opt to replace it. Old grout can be removed by using a grout rake or remover blade. Using coloured grout is increasing in popularity and it adds depth and character to a space.

Savvy Storage
Tidying away the clutter and freeing up those surfaces will instantly make your room feel clean and more spacious. Introducing some clever storage solutions to the room will help organise bathroom life for the whole household.Tall storage units offer a wealth of storage space in a fairly compact design whilst taking up a small amount of floor space. Mirrored wall cabinets provide two practicalities in one design, usually mounted above a basin, you won't need to sacrifice any floor space. If possible, upgrade your basin to a vanity unit to maximise on storage space. Bring in baskets and caddies into your shower or bath area to neatly store washing essentials. Think about places you could introduce some savvy storage to; shelves above the loo, box shelving above your door frame, towel storage at the end of your bath or shower.
Brighten up your space
Lighting features can create sophisticated focal points in the bathroom. Upgrade your lights or add more. LED strip lights are bright and modern and can be applied to numerous spots in the bathroom, sensor lights are sure to bring a contemporary feel to the room and a feature ceiling light will definitely bring a new lease of life to the bathroom.
Swap out Taps
You’ll be surprised how much of a difference your taps make on your bathrooms overall aesthetic. Bring a whole new look to your space with an alternative colour choice or keep it classic with shiny chrome, there’s so many colours and styles to choose from now, this small upgrade is sure to refresh the bathroom.
Replace the Throne
Replacing the toilet is not as tricky as you might think and a fresh new throne is a sure way to refresh the bathroom. A quicker and easier option, swap out your toilet seat for a new one or perhaps a different colour to bring a new style to the bathroom.Replace Finishing Touches
Whether you’re replacing the fixed fittings such as the toilet roll holder, towel rails and rings or simply swapping out the toothbrush holder and soap dispenser, adding or replacing your bathroom accessories can instantly change the overall look and feel of the bathroom.Add Personality
Finish off your bathroom beautifully whilst adding a sense of your personality by adding some simple yet stylish additions. Candles can add a pop of colour to the space as well as creating a welcoming atmosphere and scent when lit. There's also the option of flameless candles, reed diffusers and wax burners all creating a similar vibe.Think about your towel choices, these are a great way to introduce a new colour and style to the room. Mix colours and patterns for a contemporary and playful finish.
Plants are an excellent addition to the bathroom, bringing a natural and fresh feel to the space. Think about your plant choices carefully, some are better suited to the bathroom than others. Peace lily’s thrive in high humidity, absorbing excess moisture and purifying the air, whilst Ferns and Spider plants are some of the easier plants to grow which also enjoy high humidity and bright spaces. Fake plants, although don’t carry the same health benefits, will still create the same spa-like appeal as the real ones.
